Change your habit

In “Change Your Habit” we want to sensitize the community to the problem of plastic at sea and the junk that comes in with the ocean currents (produced also by boats and residents of the area). We will conduct coastal cleanups and create fishing nets made from recycled materials; the nets will be available to the community at the main dock, so we can collect the garbage that exists on the surface of the sea.



We will make articles with bamboo cane and offer them for sale to finance our initiative. With this project, we want to show the community that there are environmental friendly materials that can replace plastic.

In Puerto Ayora city, we’ve seen that people are using a lot of plastic material for decorations and human consumption; we’ve also seen a lot of plastic on the marine coast and the sea surface that is brought by ocean currents. This affects the flora, fauna and the community in general.

This all got us thinking that we must change our habits, especially our consumption of plastic; we’d like the community to be aware that reducing the use of plastic is perhaps even more important than recycling.

We’re motivated by the idea of sensitizing the community to the problem of excessive plastic usage, which generates a negative impact on flora and fauna. The ocean has a big problem with plastic and animal wildlife are the most affected.

The community can not only help take action to address the problems of waste, they can also see that in the island we have alternative materials that do not generate as much adverse impact.
